Manaus is a city in Brazil, the capital of the state of Amazonas. It is situated at the confluence of the Negro and Solimões rivers. It is the most populous city of Amazonas, according to the statistics of Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics, and is a popular ecotourist destination. Manaus belongs to mesoregion Center Amazonense and microregion Manaus. It is located in northern Brazil, 3,940 kilometers (2,168 miles) from the federal capital, Brasília.

The Amazon Theatre is an opera house located in the heart of Manaus, inside the Amazon Rainforest in Brazil. House was designed by Secondary School of Engineering of Lisbon in 1883, in neoclassic style influenced by the ecleticism at the end of the 19 century. It was built during the Belle Époque at a time when fortunes were made in the rubber boom. Construction of the Amazon Theater was first proposed in 1881 by a member of the House of Representatives, Antonio Jose Fernandes Júnior, the idea being to construct a jewel in the heart of the Amazonian forest and to make Manaus one of the great centers of civilization.

Corn Exchange is the the most striking building on the Market Place. This Italianate building was completed in 1853 (for a price of 2000 pounds), shortly after the construction of the railway. With the arrival of the Great Northern Railway Hitchin became an important centre for grain trading. Bowmans - one of the country's largest remaining independent millers still have a large site at the charming nearby village of Ickleford to the North. This historic settlement is well known as it is bisected by the Roman trade route The Icknield Way and possesses a fine Norman church. Ickleford is one of several villages on the outskirts of Hitchin well worth a visit.
The origins of the grain trade go back a long way. In the sixteenth century, the town was said to be second to none for its grain market (especially wheat). Queen Elizabeth I is said to have replied to a Spanish nobleman, boasting of the vineyards of his country, that "My Hitchin grapes" (meaning malt) "surpass them, or those of any other country."
